So you are curious. I’ve mentioned a new series, but I’m not one to give too many details before a book’s release. I try to avoid comparisons to the last book, or in this case the last series, because by definition it will be new. But as part of the WIP Blog Hop I wanted to answer a couple questions that have kept you all up at night…. oh, you haven’t lost any sleep at all… I guess that was just me. Here goes:
1) What am I working on?
My current WIP is book #3 in a new series. It’s my favorite genre, MM contemporary romance and features characters you’ll meet in books 1 & 2. I know, I know… sounds familiar. It isn’t. The characters are quite different. One thing I will divulge here because I feel it is sadly missing in a lot of MM books, is book 1 (& maybe 2 & 3) feature at least one Latino characters. As you may remember, Aaron in Better Than Good was Puerto Rican American. I live in So. California where the Mexican and Spanish culture is very vibrant. I think it’s only fair Latinos get some representation! And lo and behold, the new series takes place in West Hollywood. That’s WeHo to you :-)!
2) How does my work differ from others in the genre?
I’m not sure how to answer this. I write what I like and what is meaningful to me. There is always a personal component to my work, either something that has happened to me or is something I feel strongly about…sometimes in a personal sense and sometimes in a social/political sense.
3) Why do I write what I do?
I love romance! It is a beautiful genre. Don’t listen to the naysayers! The MM genre in particular is growing exponentially. There are gorgeous new works with incredible depth and character. I’m so proud to be an author writing what I love.
4) How does my writing process work?
Hmm. My writing process is so rudimentary I’m not sure it can be coined a “process”. The stories are in my head, sometimes 2 or 3 at a time. I write basic outlines and then… I go for it. I write every day until the story is out of my head and on my computer. Then I read, reread and edit many times over. Not terribly exciting but I will add I work best in the morning. And caffeine is a must!
5) Who’s next on the blog hop?
My friend, C. Jane Elliott. See what she has to say about her current WIP and her writing process. http://cjaneelliott.com
I’ll be back within the week with updated information regarding my upcoming release and the soon to be released audiobook for Better Than Friends. Woohoo! Oh yes, and I believe I said something about a short story. Stay tuned.
Happy Reading! Lane xo
